St. Vladimir Day (Constitution Day) |
The main temple of Ukrainian Orthodox Church,
St. Vladimir's Cathedral has different and interesting history of construction and extraordinary interior. It is located on the Boulevard of Taras Shevchenko, and annually attracts millions of tourists and the faithful not only from all over Ukraine, but throughout the world.
The building of Vladimir Cathedral lasted for more than 20 years: initially the building of the temple was supposed to be on voluntary donations of the population. The project, personally approved by the Emperor Alexander II, intended the building of the cathedral in neo-Byzantine........
style - the cross is in the temple basis, and the roof should have been crowned with 13 domes. However the lack of funds caused some changes in the project: there remained neo-Byzantine style, however, the cruciate was removed, and 13 domes were replaced with 7.

St. Vladimir Day (Constitution Day) |
Currently,
St. Vladimir's Cathedral differs much from the others: it is considered to be the most sacred among the other Orthodox churches and the strongest among them. People believed that in this cathedral, standing under the dome, the man, lifting up prayers and his requests to God, is the closest to God.
From the point of view of culture and architecture, the temple also has a great value: firstly, the complete reconstruction of the style of Vladimir era, secondly, the richest heritage of great artists, and thirdly, a joint project of famous architects of the imperial era.
All this favored
St. Vladimir's Cathedral to become one of the most famous and interesting sights of Kiev.
