Shweta Tiwari raises sweat in sexy sari

Shweta Tiwari is trying to give her sagging career a push by donning a wet white sari in the upcoming film, Bin Bulaye Baarati. The outfit, which invariably generates sex appeal, was popularised in the past by Raj Kapoor heroines such as Zeenat Aman in Satyam Shivam Sundaram and Mandakini in Ram Teri Ganga Maili.

Shweta, whose career has failed to soar lately despite winning Bigg Boss 4, is actually out to give the wet and wild statement a new-age twist. To further the effect, she is flaunting her legs in what appears to be a mini sari of sorts, with the hemline ending way above her knees. The actress, once counted among our most popular telly bahu s, made a mark in Bhojpuri films but failed to woo Bollywood.

She has a cameo in Bin Bulaye Baarati that includes an item song, Dil ka achaar daaloge , a song that is already generating hype thanks to its lyrics loaded with double- meaning. The film is a comedy starring Aftab Shivdasani and, besides Shweta's cameo, also has an item number featuring Mallika Sherawat, titled Shalu ke thumkey.

"Shweta has worn a wet white sari in a particular shot because director Chandrakant Singh thought the scene needed an old- world charm," says a source in the unit of the film.

Zeenat and Mandakini apart, another actress who grabbed the limelight making a white sari statement was Shilpa Shirodkar in the late eighties. Shilpa was seen romancing Anil Kapoor in Rakesh Roshan's Kishen Kanhaiya under a waterfall in the song Krishna Krishna.

When Zeenat emerged from the water in a wet white sari in Raj Kapoor's 1978 blockbuster, Satyam Shivam Sundaram , many in the audience considered the scene as a gimmick too bold for its times. Kapoor defended saying Zeenat's was the "most aesthetically presented" character in the film.

In 1985, Kapoor went a step ahead with Ram Teri Ganga Maili, which featured his debutante heroine Mandakini under a waterfall with a totally wet white sari covering her torso that left nothing to imagination. Censor Board officials raised objections but ultimately cleared the film.

Shweta shot to fame with Ekta Kapoor's soap Kasautii Zindagii Kay and carved a career in Bhojpuri films. She walked away with a prize money of Rs 1 crore after winning Bigg Boss 4 last year.

On the show, she exploited her image as a single mother who was allegedly traumatised by her one- time husband, actor- producer Raja Choudhary, to garner audience sympathy.
