In these difficult economic times, finding jobs can be challenging. But there are jobs out there to be had! So follow these tips and tricks to make sure you miss no opportunity.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Expand your internet search past monster and hotjobs. Many industries have websites specific to them and these usually include job boards. Use industry-specific keywords in an internet search, such as "accounting jobs" or "auto mechanics jobs."

  2. Step 2

Your degree or experience may work well in a related field that never occured to you. For instance, an accounting degree can help you with purchasing or payroll. Your degree in Human Resources might help you as an enrollment counselor for a nearby school. So, when searching for jobs stop looking only in your one particular field and read every ad you come across in every potential category; unless it's something you absolutely know you won't be qualified for such as the medical field, it can't hurt to at least read an ad.

  3. Step 3

Your state government may also have jobs that are in your field but they may not be advertising on another website. Check their particular site and you may find a job board or job listings.

  4. Step 4

Local colleges and universities often have job listings as well that they don't post on other websites. Check their sites and you may find many jobs even if they're entry level or part-time.

  5. Step 5

Word-of-mouth is often very successful in finding jobs. Let your family, friends, former coworkers, neighbors, those you meet through your child's school, gym or religious group, and everyone else know that you're looking for work. You don't need to hound them but just getting the word out can lead to all sorts of opportunities, even if they're just temporary or are in a field you had never imagined.

  6. Step 6

Don't hesitate to work part-time or on a temporary basis. Sometimes these positions lead to full-time or permanent work, or can help you meet more people that might know of better opportunities for you. So respond to these ads and register yourself with placement companies and temporary agencies.
